About QUIN Council

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote quality and unity for nurses and nursing in Florida by fostering unified collaboration among Florida's nursing organizations.

History of QUIN

Working Together for Quality and Unity in Nursing

The Quality and Unity in Nursing (QUIN) Council was established in August 1989 when leaders from several statewide nursing organizations came together with a shared goal: to strengthen collaboration and demonstrate unity within the nursing profession in Florida.

Founding members included:

  • Florida Nurses Association

  • Deans and Directors of Nursing Education Programs

  • Florida Hospital Association Center for the Promotion of Nursing

  • Florida League of Nursing

  • Florida Organization of Nurse Executives

  • Florida Board of Nursing

The council was modeled after the National Tri-Council for Nursing, which brings together national nursing leadership organizations to address issues impacting the profession. Each participating organization may appoint up to three representatives to QUIN meetings.

Since its founding, QUIN has grown significantly. Membership has expanded from the original organizations to include over 20 nursing organizations, reflecting the council’s ongoing commitment to fostering communication, collaboration, and a unified voice for nursing in Florida.

Over the years, QUIN has supported initiatives that strengthen the profession and improve healthcare outcomes. Past efforts include promoting the value of experienced nurses through a statewide survey—supported by a grant from the Center for American Nurses—and advocating for accurate workforce data through collaboration with the Florida Center for Nursing.

In 2015, QUIN celebrated its 25th anniversary and broadened membership eligibility to include any statewide nursing association interested in advancing unity within the profession. One of the council’s recent collaborative projects includes the development of Choose With Care, a website designed to help individuals considering a career in nursing select an accredited nursing program and understand their educational options.

Today, QUIN continues to advance its mission through a strategic plan developed in 2019, bringing member organizations together to address key issues affecting nursing in Florida. The council remains committed to strengthening partnerships across the profession and welcomes additional statewide nursing organizations to join in building a strong, unified voice for nursing and the communities nurses serve.

Participating Organizations

Today there are over 20 statewide nursing-affiliated organizations participating in QUIN Council.
